The J.M. Smucker Co. has sent a cease and desist letter to a small Minnesota company for allegedly infringing on its Uncrustables trademark.
According to the Star Tribune, a product named Gallant Tiger has been targeted for seemingly copying Smucker’s round, crustless PB&J design.
Gallant Tiger owner Kamal Mohamed received notice from Smucker’s demanding his company stop manufacturing, marketing, sales, and distribution of its sandwiches.
Gallant Tiger insisted it’s not trying to compete with Uncrustables and Mohamed’s lawyer pointed out there are limited available shapes for sandwiches.
Regardless if Smucker’s actions have merit, it’s clear that the Uncrustables brand is extremely important to the company.
CEO Mark Smucker said earlier this year that Uncrustables is on track to be a $1 billion brand for his company.
The company manufactures four million Uncrustables a day and recently opened an R&D facility to support the brand.
