Mom’s Question:
How much should a 2-month-old baby poop daily? My 2-month-old is suddenly not pooping as frequently and I am worried that something is wrong.
Thanks in advance,
Kristin

Normal Pooping Habits For 2-Month-Old Babies
At around the age of 2 months, babies tend to start pooping much less often than before, especially if breastfed.
When a baby is newborn, breastfed babies may very well pass stools many times per day, even after every feeding; day and night.
At 2 months, however, it may happen only once per day or even less often, especially among fully breastfed babies. They grow rapidly and simply digest everything they eat.
Formula-fed babies are often more regular, at around 1 time per day at this age.
It is quite common for parents to start worrying that their 2-month-old baby is constipated when he or she suddenly stops pooping regularly. And for formula-fed babies, this may be a valid concern. For breastfed babies, it is most likely not. It is almost impossible for a baby to become constipated on 100% breast milk. Instead, the baby can poop every second or third day or even less frequently than that, and it is completely normal. My youngest pooped once every two weeks for a while when breastfed and around 3-4 months old. Odd, but normal for a healthy, fully breastfed baby!
So unless your baby has hard stools and seems to be in pain or shows other signs of constipation or illness, stop worrying and simply enjoy the less frequent diaper change. :-)

Hope this helps,

Hi, my baby girl is two months and one week old and she did not poop for three days now, she’s not on formula at all. She passes out little urine, we are using only two diapers in a day since they are not full. Please what should I do?
Hi Lizzy,
A breastfed baby that doesn’t poop in a few days is NOT a problem, but if she isn’t peeing, you should talk to a doctor. Is she feeding as usual? Are you some place very hot? Her lack of peeing could be due to poor feeding, dehydration or illness. Does she seem to be ill or in any kind of pain? Again, talk to a doctor.
Good luck,
Paula
My baby is 2months old. When I breastfed, instantly she poop. Please is this normal
Hi, yes this sounds completely normal and indicates that your baby is getting enough milk.
Am so worried about my baby after every feeding she poops loose tools it’s watery some are yellowish I normally give him formula and now and then breastfed is it normal for her to poop 4to5 times a day my breast doesn’t have enough milk so everytime I try to breastfeed she would turn her head and cry I really need an advice is something wrong with her
Hi Paula!
My 2months old after pooing once a week for two weeks suddenly have been pooing too often for a week now, sometimes its green and other times yellow and also its texture is jellylike not runny.
Please i’m a so concerned, is it normal? If not please what can i do?
Hi Rukky,
Has your baby’s diet changed at all? A new formula? Or can it be that he/she has caught a cold, or a stomach bug? Is the poop watery? You don’t mention how often your baby is actually pooping right now.
A baby’s pooping frequency and consistency can definitely vary without anything being wrong, but very frequent pooping, especially if watery indicates diarrhea, and some sort of illness. Mucus in the baby’s poop can also, to some extent be normal, especially for breastfed babies, but a sudden shift towards much more mucus would also indicate for example a virus.
It is very possible that your baby is just fine or has a mild viral infection that will go away on its own, but being so young, I’d take him or her to a doctor to be on the safe side. Babies can become dehydrated quickly and it is, in any case, good to have them examined when something doesn’t seem completely right.
Good luck and let me know how things develop. Take care!
I thing my breast feed is not sufficient for my 2 month baby, it affect on his weight and he continuesly crying and he is not happy with the formula. So i started giving him toned milk mix with water. is it safe to feed him toned milk mix with water?
