What follows is my guide for Dads on how to use cloth diapers. Moms may, of course, peek too. :-)

Attention New Dads: If your partner wants to use cloth diapers with your newborn, you’re going to be using cloth diapers. Just face reality and don’t fight it.
Sure, there will be moments of panic in anticipation of this, and that’s completely understandable, but have no fear; I’m here to help.
And if you are still wondering why to use cloth diapers, you’ll find some good reasons here.
How To Use Cloth Diapers the Smartest Way
- Purge your mind of everything you think you know about cloth diaper
- Arrange a demo
- Add a diaper sprayer to your wishlist
- Watch a video, read a blog, etc…
Tip #1: Purge your mind of everything you think you know about cloth diaper
PinToday’s world of cloth diapering is not like your grandmother’s. These days, cloth diapers come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors. There are pre-folded diapers, fitted diapers, pocket diapers, printed or plain diapers, waterproof diaper covers, wool covers, snap diapers and more.
Forget about using those huge bulky safety pins as well. Put Snappis on your baby shower wish list. These cute and clever little fasteners (invented by a Dad, by the way) take the fear out of poking your baby and fingers with the pins and allow you to make your cloth diapering easier.
Tip #2: Arrange a demo
Undoubtedly, the idea of using cloth diapers didn’t just materialize on its own. You have friends who use or have used cloth diapers and maybe your parents used them on you.
I was really nervous about using cloth diapers so when talking with some friends who had a baby in cloth diapers, I cracked a joke about wishing I could practice on a baby.
They thought I was serious and offered up their toddler as my “guinea pig” so to speak. We went to their house for dinner, looked at all kinds of cloth diapers they used, and I got to practice on their toddler. Not only did it relieve some of my concerns, but we also got to borrow many of their smaller, newborn size fitted diapers and diaper covers for our daughter.
Tip #3: Add a diaper sprayer to your wish list
If I had to do it over again, a diaper sprayer would have been purchased and installed before we got home with our baby. Unfortunately, I learned about this pretty late in the game, and it cost me loads of time and energy when laundering our cloth diapers. Trust me when I say it will be the best $59 you’ll ever spend.
Tip #4 Watch a video, read a blog, etc…
The Internet has loads of resources on cloth diapering and plenty of videos to actually learn how to use cloth diapers.
